Justin Langer: Former Australia batter and coach to lead London Spirit men in The Hundred in 2025

Former Australia opener Justin Langer has been named as the new head coach of London Spirit's men's side in The Hundred.

Langer's appointment comes a month after ex-England coach Trevor Bayliss left the role.

Bayliss presided over only three wins across the past two seasons, leaving the Lord's-based team seventh in 2023 and last in 2024.

Langer played 105 Tests for Australia, scoring more than 7,500 runs, and was head coach of his home country from 2018 to 2022, winning the Ashes and also lifting the T20 World Cup in the UAE in 2021.

The 54-year-old has previously coached Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and is head coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.

Langer played for Middlesex as an overseas player between 1998 and 2000 and is enthusiastic about returning to Lord's with Spirit as he aims to turn around the team's fortunes.

"I'm excited to experience The Hundred," Langer said. "I'm looking forward to being a part of the tournament later this year, and working with such a talented group of players and coaches."

London Spirit's women's side won The Hundred in 2024, beating Welsh Fire in the final.

Langer's fellow Australians Lisa Keightley and Michael Klinger will take charge of women's outfits in The Hundred in 2025, with the former appointed at Northern Superchargers and the latter at Manchester Originals.

Fixtures for the 2025 edition of The Hundred have not yet been announced but the competition will be held in August.
